Air New Zealand to Open New Flagship Koru Lounge at Auckland Airport in 2025

Air New Zealand will launch a new flagship Koru Lounge at Auckland International Airport in 2025. The development marks the largest upgrade to the airline’s lounge facilities at its main hub.

The current lounge covers about 2000 square metres. The new facility will expand to roughly 3700 square metres, an increase of about 1700 square metres. Seating capacity will grow by around 70 percent. The larger footprint will help reduce overcrowding during peak travel times.

Two separate lounges will be introduced. A new lounge will serve Airpoints Elite and Business Premier members. The original space will be redesigned for Airpoints Gold, Star Alliance Gold, Airpoints Silver, and Koru members. The separation is intended to match the needs of different traveller groups and improve service delivery.

The Elite and Business Premier lounge will provide private work areas, meeting rooms, and single-seat booths. The space will focus on business travellers who require quiet zones and access to technology before flights.

The Gold and Koru lounge will feature casual seating, family zones, and expanded dining areas. A dedicated family section will make it easier for parents to relax while keeping children entertained. A relocated barista station near the entrance will reduce congestion and speed up service. Runway views will be included in selected areas.

Construction will begin in early 2026. The project will take place in two phases. Stage one will see the Elite and Business Premier lounge built. The current lounge will remain open during this period, but with reduced capacity. Stage two will renovate the existing lounge for Gold and Koru members. Completion is expected by late 2027.

Auckland Airport handles more than 21 million passengers annually. International traffic has risen steadily since borders reopened. Growing passenger numbers have put pressure on existing lounge facilities. The expansion responds to this demand and prepares the airport for the next decade of growth.

The new lounges will include:

  • Private meeting rooms

  • Single-seat work booths

  • A family-friendly zone

  • Expanded dining and refreshment areas

  • Runway views

  • A repositioned barista bar

The investment brings Auckland into line with international lounge standards. Comparable facilities already operate at major hubs such as Singapore Changi, Sydney, and Dubai. Air New Zealand’s expansion reinforces Auckland as the airline’s central hub for long-haul travel.

Travellers will continue to have lounge access during construction. Air New Zealand will provide updates through its mobile app to keep members informed about temporary changes.

The full upgrade will deliver two lounges designed for different passenger needs. The focus is on providing more space, improving service speed, and aligning the lounge experience with international benchmarks.
